It's a little early to celebrate over here in Canada, but mom (Betty) is 55 over in Hong Kong today on December 14th, 2007.

Here are some pictures from our dinner (Karen, Rosina, Greg and Betty). She had a lovely prime rib and a complementary tiramisu from the management, who wished her well in strawberry syrup.

Please go to Billy and Betty's photo album to see more pictures from the dinner!

View Article  More Info on Health & Food Diet!

Dear All,

Thanks to Uncle Kochy again!  Please share his advice below with families and friends.

Good Health, Great Life Everyone!

**************************

The article from the link below on fats contains helpful information on fats.  Actually, suitable intake of good fats and fiber are helpful in weight reduction and prevention of diabetes and heart diseases.

http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/fats.html

There are some inconsistencies with other articles about the healthful effects of mono and polyunsaturated fats.  At this point, I would stick with the monounsaturated fats like olive oil and canola oil because some controversies exist on polyunsaturated fats.

This site has the information on role of food fibers:

http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/BHCV2/bhcarticles.nsf/pages/Fibre_in_food?OpenDocument

You probably know most of the stuff there already.  But one thing that you may want to pass on is that sudden increase of fiber intake may not be desirable.   It should be gradually done to increase to about 30 grams per day.

View Article  Omega 3 & Food Source

Dear All,

Omega 3 fatty acids are the good fats with various health benefits towards lowering hypertension etc.  Fish like herring, salmon, and sardines and in plant oils, canola, flaxseed and walnut contain the highest amount of omega 3 per gram of the food.  For more details, please read attached article, thanks to Uncle Kochy's contribution.

Hope all is well and in the best of health!

GUN HAI GUAN HAI to everyone!  Wishing you LONE MA JING SUN,  SUN TAI GEEN HONG, YUE YEE GUT CHEUNG, BO BO GO SING!  I hope everyone is doing well!

My work has been getting busier lately, a major project for a major customer.  Related to my work area, have you hear about the <a href="http://www.chevrolet.com/electriccar/">Chevrolet Volt</a>?  Hoping to get it well on its way so I can relax a bit in the summer.  And very excited to see a big increase of public awareness and concern for global climate change.

Rosina just started a new job, very exciting for her.

This is probably more important to my parents, who want to make sure I'm eating properly, than to anyone else - I posted today about food in my blog. I think most if not all of us definitely earn our stripes as "foodies", i.e. big fans of good eating.

Electric cars can make a big comback in urban short trips.  They are way more efficient than gasoline, simplier, and if only they build it I would buy one.  Waitng for Mitsu MIEV and Suburu R1e myself.

My company Delta-Q Technologies builds electronic modules for electric vehicles; we are doing well with golf cars and industrial utility vehicles.

View Article  "Best Buy" wines for only HK$79

It's been a while since I wrote as I've busy lately with my PC video projects.

I stumbled on a bargain (or 2?) over the weekend.  These are two US$8 wines from Columbia Crest, Washington - the 2002 Two Vines Cabernet Sauvignon and 2002 Two Vines Shiraz, both of which are now on sale at ParknShop for $79 each.

According to Wine Enthusiast's (WE) chart, 2002 vintage for Washington is a stunning 95 points.  Both these 2 wines got a 88-pt rating and a "Best Buy" from WE.  Links to WE's reviews are:

http://www.winemag.com/buyingGuide/detail.asp?wineid=42495

Subjective Tasting
I tried a bottle of the 2002 Cab last night with roast pork.  The cork is very light in colour because of its young age. On the nose it is refreshingly enticing. The taste is fruity but not as strong as some Aussie fruit bomb.  With soft tannin, little airing (nor cellaring, I guess) is required before consumption.  For its price, a very good every day wine indeed.

p.s.  I have yet to try the Shiraz. The winery's web site claimed that the 2001 vintage got a 90-pt award from Wine Enthusiast but I cannot find it on the shelf anymore!

Cheers!

Review on 2002 vintage of Bordeaux Right Bank Region http://www.winespectator.com/Wine/Free/0,3739,48,00.html

My observation: Reading between the lines, I sensed that the writer implied that buying wines of the 2002 vintage from the Bordeaux right bank regions could be a hit or miss venture. Unless one has money to burnt,  some research would definitely be worthwhile to avoid disappointment.

Labelling wine with anti-oxident content/quantity?

My observation: Note the type of red wine with higher resveratrol content.

View Article  A bit of an update
Hello all. I know my brother did an update on him and Rosina, so I figured I'd do the same. I've actually had about 4 or 5 personal blogs with my friends since about 2001, and written a couple of academic essays about them, but this is a bit different and interesting.

As for what's happening with me, I'm just finishing up the end of a semester at the moment. I'll be entering my fourth year of a BA in Communication (minor in English) in the fall. For this summer, I'll be taking a class for 6 weeks, then I'll be doing a little travelling--I'll be in New York staying with a friend for 2 weeks, then I'll be in a rural town by the St. Lawrence River in Quebec in Eastern Canada for 4 weeks learning to speak French. Hopefully that means when I get back I'll be able to tell my dad not just what it says on the label of his French wines, but also what it means.

My longer-term plans include possibly finding some kind of short-term (i.e. 4 months) contract work in Hong Kong sometime within the next year and a half, as I would like to get a chance to go back and brush up on my Chinese if possible. I also expect to be graduating around September or December 2006.

I also completed an application today for a job with the Government of Canada in Ottawa for the fall. I'm hoping that they like my cover letter, as I think it would be an interesting experience.

Hope everybody is well and that everybody gets to see my brother when he's in HK soon
View Article  Greg and Rosina in HK

Hi all,

As you may have heard from my dad, I will be travelling to HK soon on business and taking a bit of vacation time.  I will arrive the evening of Apr19, go straight to Dongguan, and return to HK the evening of Apr21 if all goes smoothly.  I will be staying at my dad's place in Tsing Yi in HK.  I will be departing Friday Apr29.

My wife Rosina will arrive in HK the evening of Apr20, and she will stay with her brother for a night.  She is more flexible on the return trip, scheduled now for May2.

That weekend (23-24) may be a good opportunity to have a family gathering, if everyone is free.  I will of course keep my schedule open!  However, I may not be able to arrange with everyone, so if I can ask for your help Cousin Grace, it would be appreciated.

I will get everyone's contact from my dad and let you know my mobile # as well when I know.  Look forward to seeing you!
